FAQ

Playing Up Policy

Guidance for families requesting that a player participate in an older age division.

Overview

Players generally develop best within their age group where teammates are closer in size, skill, and maturity. However, playing up may be appropriate in certain situations, such as accelerated development needs or to maintain team continuity. Requests to play up are considered on a case-by-case basis by the Team Formation & Practice Committee.

Playing down a division is not permitted due to insurance limitations, which typically only cover participants within their designated age group.

Eligibility & Considerations

  • Demonstrated readiness across technical skill, game understanding, and emotional maturity.
  • Player safety and wellbeing remain the top priority.
  • Impact on team balance and overall league parity.
  • Coach feedback and prior playing history may be reviewed when available.

Request Process

  1. Register the player for their standard age division to reserve a spot.
  2. Email your play-up request to the league at info@example.org with the player’s name, birth date, requested division, and a brief rationale.
  3. The Team Formation & Practice Committee will review requests after registration closes and before teams are finalized.
  4. You will receive a decision via email. If approved, we will move the player to the requested division.

Decisions

All decisions regarding playing up are made at the discretion of the Team Formation & Practice Committee. Approval in a prior season does not guarantee approval in future seasons.
